OUR STORY

December 17, 1957

Calvary Church – Nampa was founded as Nampa First Southern Baptist Church, a church plant from its sister church in Caldwell, Idaho. The group of eighteen were organized by a local missionary and after meeting a few months they called Pastor E.L. Jenkins of Ashville, North Carolina. Moving from the VFW to a local store front, the group grew to 28 when membership was chartered. Over the years the church inhabited a few other buildings before coming to rest at our current location on Sherman & Almond in 1961.

God richly blessed NFSBC in the first few decades, not only reaching our immediate community, but also helping to start/support six missions (Meridian – 1958, Emmett-1960, Nyssa-1963, Jackpot-1963, Twin Falls-1963, Horseshoe Bend-1975), of which four were constituted as a church. Then the neighborhood around us started to change in the 1980s, and, while we did our best to stay relevant in sharing the Gospel, change is not always as easy, nor as quick, as we would like. As a result, the church saw years of decline and in 2016 we decided something must change in order for our church to be a relevant and gospel force in our community. We had faith that God was not done with us yet!

Today, Calvary Nampa is on the cusp of God’s movement in the Treasure Valley. Having been replanted with the Calvary Family of Churches, a great opportunity is at hand for God’s glory to continue to shine forth from this church by making Jesus non-ignorable in Nampa and to the ends of the earth.
