Go Show And Tell The Gospel Boldly

At Calvary Nampa, our fourth and final Core Commitment is “Go Show And Tell The Gospel Boldly.” Just as the Father sent Jesus into the world to provide the hope of the gospel, Jesus has also sent us on mission to the communities, cities and nations of the world to show and tell the gospel and multiply disciples who do the same (Matthew 28:19-20; John 20:21).

Key Expression - Missionary-Disciple-Makers

It is our conviction that we have all been called and sent by God to be “missionary-disciple-makers” who give our lives away to make disciples who then go and make more disciples. We believe this is the mission of every Christian, not just pastors and church staff members. And that is because our mission is to join in God’s mission - his eternal work of redemption.

We see three primary ways of doing this:

  1. Servants Who Invest - Intentionally putting others needs before our own and giving of our time, talents and resources. Serving others testifies to the warmth, love and grace of God by intentionally investing in the life of our neighbors, friends and co-workers. It it by building into the lives of those around us that we earn the right to be heard.

  2. Hosts Who Invite - Invitation into our lives gives others the chance to see Jesus-people living the Jesus-life in motion. When we invite others into the activities of Christian community, like a Sunday service or a Community Group, and into our lives for a meal, recreation, entertainment or other rhythms of life; we testify to God’s initiative to show undeserved hospitality to us in Christ and we give opportunity for the gospel message to be seen and heard.

  3. Ambassadors Who Introduce - While the actions of inviting and investing show the fruit of the gospel’s transforming power in our life; an introduction is the verbal telling to others of Jesus Christ’s reconciling work through his life, death, and resurrection to save us and bring us into the life and priorities of his Kingdom. Truly the gospel is a message that is to be proclaimed - good news of salvation from mankind’s biggest problem, sin and its ultimate end, death.

Life on mission must be intentional (disciplined and single minded like an athlete, soldier or farmer), lived outside the walls of a church (with the lost, broken, and hurting) and in community (finding encouragement, camaraderie, and reminders of truth from other believers). Take your next step!

Go Local (Outreach)

By “Go Local,” we mean to remind ourselves that the impulse to show and tell the gospel boldly is to be compelled genuinely by the love of Christ and that this should turn our eyes outward to the immediate community around us here locally.

We are a neighborhood church that seeks to maintain a presence as a “gospel outpost” for our neighborhood. We hope to be the best kind of neighbors, those who genuinely care and who offer truth with love and neighborly service.

As a congregation we make efforts to connect with our neighbors and build relational bridges with those around us, whether through acts of service, events designed to bring people together, or just walking and praying in our neighborhood.

Examples include the following…

but the ideas and possibilities are as numerous and diverse and the various people and gifts and interests that are among the people of God here at Calvary!

Go Global (Missions)

By “Go Global,” we mean to remind ourselves that God’s heart is for all nations; that the gospel is for all people in all places; and that the culmination of his work will be to gather for himself a worshiping people “from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9).

Therefore, it is our joy and privilege to sacrificially participate in his work to “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10). We do so by taking seriously his command to “Go make disciples of all nations (ethnos)” (Matt. 28:19).

Toward that end we pray for the nations, particularly those places where Christ is not named and access to the gospel is absent or severely limited, and for those who give their lives to represent Christ to the nations. We give so that the work of international missions might be fueled and furthered. And we also take on the burden to go, when and where the Lord leads.

Some of the ministries and missions we are actively involved in include:

  • Calvary Global - As an extension of the Calvary Family of Churches (CFC) we are able to partner to do more together than we can on our own. Together in the CFC we can learn together, including a robust missions preparation curriculum through Missions Cohorts. We also are able to share in supporting those called to go to the nations and to have opportunities to go and be a part of that work ourselves.

  • Give Dignity - Ministry based in La Carpio, Costa Rica working to realize enduring life change and redeemed relationships among the poor through Christ-centered holistic development initiatives, supporting employment, education and prevention of violence.

  • International Missions Board (IMB) - On mission with God in penetrating the unevangelized world outside the United States and Canada with the gospel and making Christ known among all people.

  • Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) - Desires to see isolated people changed by the love of Christ by serving together to bring help, hope, and healing through aviation.

  • Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) & Cooperative Program (CP) - SBC is a body of like-minded local churches cooperating together to reach the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. CP is the financial fuel that funds the advancement of the Gospel regionally, statewide, nationally, and globally; allowing churches everywhere to participate in a collective mission.
